Friendship Collegiate Academy builds scholars ready for the rigors and rewards of college. By immersing students in a collegiate environment that provides early exposure to college-level courses and experiences, Collegiate achieves some of the highest graduation and college acceptance rates in the Washington area. The Collegiate Academy is a “school-within-a-school” model. Students will attend TCHS and will be able to participate in the same activities and programs as non-Collegiate Academy students. The Collegiate Academy staff will work with the students on a 4-year plan once students start at the Collegiate Academy. Collegiate Academy is a small, family-centered community of about 350 students committed to small class sizes and a low student to teacher ratio. We seek to create an engaging learning environment that develops creative problem-solvers in a college preparatory model which both challenges and supports our students.

Collegiate’s roadmap to student success includes 16 College Board Advanced Placement courses among four rigorous career academies that encourage self-discovery and a mastery of core academic content: Early College, Information Technology and Engineering, Fine Arts, and Health Sciences.
Our Early College Academy, the first such program at a public charter high school in the city, offers highly motivated students the opportunity to earn up to two years’ college credit before graduation. Today, Early College alumni proudly hold degrees from some of the nation’s most competitive institutions: Princeton. Morehouse. Columbia. William and Mary. Spelman. Carnegie Mellon. Virginia. Maryland. George Washington. UCLA. Georgetown. The list grows year by year.
But a Collegiate education is more than cracking books. Students enjoy a variety of clubs and athletic activities that reinforce the core values of integrity, confidence, persistence and teamwork. From an award-winning robotics team and drama club to the city’s No.1 charter high school football team, Collegiate develops well-rounded scholars ready to succeed at whatever advanced goals they tackle.

2020-21 Virtual After-School Club Registration
All after-school clubs are virtual until Friendship resumes in-person instruction for all students at all campuses. Clubs will run from 4:00 – 5:00 pm on designated club days. Please read through the club descriptions below before you attempt to enroll. Please note that there are limited slots available for each club. Please do not register for more than two clubs.

Knight News
The Knight Times is the school newspaper written and designed by Collegiate Academy students. Students will write, edit, and layout monthly issues of the school newspaper.

Black Girls Code
The goal of this club is to increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology. Black Girls Code will provide Collegiate Academy young ladies with the skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings in the U.S.

Robotics Team
All students are natural scientists and engineers. The Robotics Club will offer students the chance to design, build, and program a VEX 5 robot. Students will participate in competitions throughout the school year. This club is for students who love to question, tinker, experiment and play. VEX competitions foster these skills and capitalize on the motivational effects of competitions and robotics to help all students create an identity as a STEM learner. Students will also gain valuable soft skills like communication, collaboration and time-management in a fun and authentic way.

Battle of the Books
Students will read books throughout the school year and come together virtually to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read.

Choir/Vocal Music
This club is for all students that enjoy singing. Being in this club will give students the opportunity to sing many different styles of music, either alone or as part of an ensemble, on a weekly basis.

Marching Band/Color Guard/Band Dancers
In addition to being a part of the Collegiate Marching Knights, students will be given the most basic instruction from instrument assembly, care, and maintenance, to advanced techniques as he/she progresses during at-home practice and eventually in-school instruction.
Also included in this club are the Band Dancers and Color Guard.

Dance
Dance Club encourages all dancers to increase his/her physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being through dancing. The goal is to provide quality dance instruction for all students who participate, regardless of skill-level. Model United Nations
Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and its other multilateral bodies where students perform an ambassador role while debating topics such as gender equality, climate action, global health, and more.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Jr.
This club encourages students to attend college and pursue technical degrees. Students will participate in technical competitions such as the Try-Math-A-Lon, Ten80, Engineering Design Competition (Robotics-based), and the PCI Science Fair. Students can also receive college application information including how to get into college, financial aid information, etc.

High School Esports League’s Fall Major is a nationwide eight-week gaming tournament where students can play and compete with friends and classmates in 6 top video games, with the champion schools of each game winning free game consoles! Games include Overwatch, CS:GO, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros: Ultimate, Rainbow Six: Siege, Hearthstone, NBA 2K 21, Madden 21, Minecraft: Survival Games, Modern Warfare: Gunfight, and Valorant.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students must have the game console, online subscription, and game at home in order to participate in the Esports League.
